Cocoon-shaped domes, resembling the boulders strewn along the beach, house luxurious canvas tents with a décor inspired by the early adventures and pioneers, but with all the accoutrements of luxury travel in the 21st century, some even have private pools. The intricate sculptural dome of the dining pavilion makes for memorable meals, whilst the poolside Ten Tusker’s Bar faces the ocean and is adorned by a handcrafted bamboo chandelier. In true safari style, post evening game drive sundowners and canapes are held, not overlooking the savannah but in a rugged beach garden to the sound of the waves. Games drives and guided nature walks get you up close and personal to the abundant wildlife including a profusion of leopards, elephants with a penchant for midnight beach swims, sloths, and monkeys. These incredible wildlife experiences bookend days spent lazing by the pool, exploring local, rural villages by bicycle, visiting nearby cultural sites, or cooking up a feast with a Sri Lankan cookery class. For true relaxation there is also a Sanctuary Spa.
