Portugal’s Mediterranean climate results in hot, dry summers and mild winters. June to August is the time to visit for sun-soaked days accompanied by pleasant sea breezes. Spring and Autumn are good times for a quieter visit without the summer season crowds, with March to May seeing the country’s flowers come into bloom and many festivals take place, whilst September to October offer an extension to northern Europe’s summer, as the sun continues to shine, and temperatures remain in the 20s until the end of the main tourist season in late October. Winters are mild with more rain than at other times of the year, but a generally pleasant climate in which to explore.
