Featured Destinations

With powder-soft beaches, warm Caribbean waters and a laid-back island spirit, Barbados has long been a favourite for those seeking sunshine with a little something extra. Beyond its beautiful coastline, the island is rich in flavour, culture and history, with luxurious places to stay and plenty to discover. From where to stay to the experiences worth adding to your itinerary, our expert guide brings together some of the best ways to experience Barbados.

How to Get There

One of the world’s top holiday destinations, Barbados is well served by major airports and airlines around the world, making its crystal-clear Caribbean waters easily reachable. UK travellers can choose from convenient direct services from London Heathrow and Manchester, with additional flights from London Gatwick recently announced for Winter 2026/27 and Summer 2027, making access to the island easier than ever. Following an approximate 9-hour flight from the UK, choose between the island’s rugged coastline and wild surf of the east and the relaxed luxury and calm Caribbean Sea on the west.

When’s the best time to visit? While temperatures remain in the high 20s all year round, the seasons are generally split between the ‘wet season’ from June to November and the ‘dry season’ from December to May. With thousands of visitors exploring this paradise every year, choose the best time for to experience this sunny, beach destination with so much more to offer.

Luxury Accommodation

There is something for everyone on this island, but its luxury resorts take the crown for the ideal Barbadian retreat. Not just one of our favourites, but a resort often recognised as one of the most iconic luxury destinations in the world, Sandy Lane is always one of our top choices for Barbados.

For more than sixty years, this distinguished address has delivered decadent relaxation, exclusive privacy and unrivalled leisure on the Platinum Coast. Overlooking a tranquil 1,000 ft. crescent of white sand beach and turquoise waters, accommodation ranges from sumptuous guest rooms to sprawling 5-bedroom villas that offer a true sense of privacy. The Sandy Lane experience extends beyond its accommodation to five distinctive restaurants, an award-winning spa, a range of water sports, both on and off-site activities and three championship golfing experiences.

White-Sand Adventures

When you picture Barbados, you’ll likely imagine the powder soft white sands synonymous with this island escape. With more than 80 pristine shores to choose from, including many ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world, it is easy to lose track of the days as you soak up the sunshine, swim in the sea and relax in the Caribbean breeze.

The best way to truly see the island is to rent a car and explore from coast to coast. To the south lies Miami Beach with its long stretches of sand and turquoise-hued water. It is ideal for long days under the sun, whether for a family picnic or a chance to try your hand at surfing. Or perhaps the luxury and enchantment of the west coast calls your name. Mullins Beach is the obvious choice for marine lovers, with glass-bottom boat trips designed for exploring coral reefs and shipwrecks, as well as offering the chance to swim with turtles.

Sample Barbados' Greatest Export © Richard Wadey

No trip to Barbados is complete without sampling the country’s oldest and greatest export, rum. Considered the birthplace of this much-loved spirit, make sure to book a distillery tour to discover the stories, mysteries and secrets behind the process.

A Mount Gay distillery tour in particular is steeped in history. Founded in 1703, it is believed to produce the oldest rum found anywhere in the world. Head to the visitor experience to explore the history, heritage and craft of Mount Gay rums amongst the lush green gardens or choose a special upgraded tour that includes a cocktail mixing sessions or a traditional Bajan lunch.

Celebrating Barbados

Whether you’re a rum enthusiast, a history buff or just chasing carnivals, there's always something happening in beautiful Barbados. While some celebrations can be experienced throughout the year, if there’s something the catches your attention, it’s worth planning your time around it!

November has foodies in mind with the Barbados Food & Rum Festival taking place every year. The festival transforms the island, serving plates to honour culinary traditions while embracing bold, modern twists. Of course, it also showcases the versatility and creativity of rum too.

A different kind of celebration, Crop Over Festival is famed for its celebration of all things Bajan. The 200-year-old tradition honours the end of the sugar cane season and is filled with dusk till dawn parties, arts and crafts markets and culinary-driven street fares. Grand Kadooment Day is the culmination of the Crop Over Festival. This is a parade with revellers dressed in sequinned costumes decorated with colourful feathers, jewels and bright accents, as they dance behind moving trucks to the most popular tunes of the festival.

Whether your ideal escape is spent unwinding on white sands, discovering the island’s rum-making heritage or soaking up the colour and energy of a Bajan celebration, Barbados offers countless ways to make your time here memorable However you choose to explore, one thing is certain: this Caribbean favourite has a way of leaving you wanting to return.
